About Kreative Interventions

Kreative Interventions was established in Ireland in 2009 by Dr Kay Inckle to provide information, training and research to improve understanding and supports for people who self-injure (self-harm).

All KI’s work with self-injury is based on a holistic, social-model and a harm-reduction ethos.

Harm-reduction is an alternative to prevention which promotes self-care. It recognises self-injury as a coping and survival mechanism and supports and empowers individuals in staying safe and exploring their needs and issues.

Through the pioneering work and kind permission of Louise Pembroke two key harm-reduction resources are now available as free downloads from this site on the Resources page: Cutting the Risk: Self-Harm, Self-Care & Risk-Reduction and The Hurt Yourself Less Workbook.

Kreative Interventions Ethos and Practice

Kreative Interventions operates wholly from a harm-minimisation ethic which extends through the harm-reduction ethos and practice for self-injury, to the research methods used, and the business model Kreative Interventions operates. KI is founded on an ethics of respect and dignity towards all life and opposes the exploitation and harm of all living things: people, animals, and the environment. As far as possible, all products and materials used are fair-trade, locally sourced, recycled, environmentally sound and vegan. However, it is impossible to implement this principle one hundred per cent. Therefore, as an effort towards offsetting any negative impacts, for every large piece of work KI is commissioned to undertake a donation of £5 sterling will be made to the charity Vegfam (www.vegfamcharity.org.uk). This donation enables a family in India to become self-sufficient in fruit/vegetables, or a family in Africa to have safe water, in a way which is in harmony with the local environment and culture and without the exploitation or degradation of living things. In 2010 KI also donated to the Concern Haiti earthquake appeal (https://www.concern.net).
